Mackintosh at the Willow Royal Opening
The newly restored Mackintosh at the Willow Tearooms on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow were officially opened on Friday 7th September by special guests HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Mackintosh at the Willow Tea Rooms, visitors centre, exhibition, learning and education suite, retail and conference facilities are now open to the public.
Manufactured Joinery recreated a number of furniture pieces which feature at Mackintosh at the Willow. Drawings and plans for most of the items didn’t exist therefore the items were recreated using black and white photographs.
The A-listed property is of international significance as it was the only building where Mackintosh had complete control over the architecture and interior decorations, including the design of furniture, cutlery and waitress uniforms.
Crowds gathered to welcome the royals who even had time for a cup of tea before unveiling a plaque to mark the official opening of the tea rooms. Click here to watch Prince Charles place the final piece on the baldacchino created by Manufactured Joinery.
Gerry Cummins, Director, Manufactured Joinery said “It is fantastic to reach this point in the project which we are honoured to have been a part of. It was brilliant to mark the occasion with such special guests and we hope everyone who visits Glasgow can spend some time at Mackintosh at the Willow.”
